Corroboree - A Special Gathering
A long time ago, the Kalkadoon tribe lived in different groups called clans. Each clan had about 20 adults and they lived in different parts of the land.
Sometimes, people from each clan would come together for a big gathering called a Corroboree. A Corroboree was a very special time. It could be held for many reasons—maybe to celebrate a ceremony, for a wedding, or to trade things like tools or food.
During a Corroboree, everyone would share stories, dance, and sing songs. They also enjoyed hunting and eating together. Some of the favourite foods they might share were goanna (a big lizard) and emu (a large flightless bird).
A Corroboree was a happy and important time when the whole tribe could connect, celebrate and enjoy being together.
