About the Author
I am a Nyul Nyul man on my father side and also a Banjima Guruma man from my mother’s side of the family.
I was born in Wickham but raised in Broome, I made the hard decision to move to Perth at a young age of 17yrs Old.
I came up with the story while I was doing FIFO (Fly in Fly out) on a Rio Tinto Site, my roster was 8x6.
I often dreamt and missed my family whilst I was away on site, I am married with three kids, Isabele, Harrison & Isaac Dann.
One night while I was on site I dreamt about a young mischievous boy having no culture to give him an identity, no cultural traditions to pass on to his own children one day. So, this boy played up and got into a lot of trouble with others until one day he had a vision, a vision that told him he was actually very important and that he would one day save his tribe and Mother Earth.
Unfortunately, I woke from my dream and never saw how it ended, so I thought to myself I am going to write my own ending. Once I did my kids liked the story, so I thought why not turn it into a book, and so I did.
I have never read a book/novel when I was growing up, I was never interested in reading books. Instead, I was always out and about fishing or hunting with the family, and now I wrote a book. So, if I can write a book then anyone can. You just need a vision to help you get started.
What kept me going and getting my book published was to honour and celebrate both my families, my Dann side (Father) as well as my Smith side (Mother) of the family.
I looked towards both sides of the family to help provide knowledge of our culture which I incorporated into my book, it is their teachings that makes my book special. Now my culture will never die as long as my book is out there circulating amongst family and friends and the public.
I hope everyone enjoys the book as much as I enjoyed creating it.
