Goongaroo Gindi

Claude Carter

The Gindi (bush plum) grows all around Goongaroo, which is a very powerful place on my country, situated 90 kms south east of Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia.

We care for the country to ensure the bush tucker continues to thrive to provide for our families. My ancestors have done this for centuries.

When we arrive at Goongaroo we have to sing out and the bird sings back so that Girloorloo (rainbow serpent), who lives in the waterhole, knows we are coming in good faith and mean no harm.
